INDIAN CHIEF DARK HORSE Flip open the catalogue and you’ll see Dark Horse in its only colour – Thunder Black Smoke – and in solo trim, but just to prove otherwise, our test bike came with a comfy pillion seat and pegs. At more than 2.6 metres, this is a long bike, but that actually helps its stability and cruise-ability. It won pillion prize for passenger comfort and was an all-round delightful bike to ride. It was however, the most aesthetically challenging and split our team on visual appeal. The big 1,811cc Thunder Stroke® 111 V-Twin, a clean-sheet design in 2014, still holds true to heritage with parallel pushrods and two-valve heads in a 49-degree V. The monster delivers a whopping 139Nm of torque at just 3,000rpm, so it’s always going to be a relaxed ride.
